Why Attend Bible College?

Why Attend Bible College?

Is it worth the time, money and effort it takes to attend Bible College? Before I throw in my thoughts, let’s look at what Paul writes to Timothy:

2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (New International Version)
The KJV of that verse reads, “…study to show yourself approved…”. The emphasis of the verse is clearly two items. First – study of the Word of God, and secondly, the correct handling (teaching) of the Word of God.
Bible College is an excellent way to expand your knowledge of, and perhaps even more importantly, your understanding of the Bible. For those who God has called to service in His kingdom, and especially those called into one of the “five-fold ministries” (ref Ephesians 4:11); knowledge and understanding of the Bible is essential. If we flip Paul’s exhortation to Timothy around we see him really saying to Timothy:
“To properly and accurately teach the Word of God, you must study the Word of God.”
The time set aside in our life for preparation and training is never wasted time. It is a time of spiritual growth, and development of maturity. It is always a time God uses to expand our understanding of who He is, and what He has called us to.
Most individuals find that in the time of training and preparation, God refines and hones the passion of their life – the specific work they feel Him leading them to. Thus, it is not a surprise to also find out that while He was doing those things, He was sharpening and developing the spiritual gifts and enablements that will allow those same individuals to achieve and live out His will in their lives.
May we always give Him the highest praise, glory and honor.
God bless.
Pastor Pete
